Fiji must channel its focus on the Agriculture sector if it wants - TopicsExpress

Fiji must channel its focus on the Agriculture sector if it wants to reduce its reliance on imported food products. These were the words of the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama during the opening of Fiji Crop and Livestock Service in Lautoka today. Bainimarama says guaranteeing enough crops and livestock to feed our populace without relying on imports is a mammoth task for the country. Making farming a profitable profession in today’s world, while it takes more than just planting a few seeds or getting a few cattle or goats, it has become a highly specialized skill and our people need to be empowered to adequately till the land and be prosperous. In opening the FCLC office today Bainimarama said initiatives like this will bolster the work government is trying to do in reaching out to farmers across the spectrum and empowering them with the latest tools to become better at what they do. He says in continuing to encourage the younger populace to take on farming as a career path, government is committed to providing those that are interested to do so with scholarships at local universities. fijione.tv/pm-urges-agriculture-sector-to-be-more-focussed/
