File under: Stranger Than Fiction True Story or Random Things That Happen To Folk Singers for $400, Alex I used to busk almost every day in Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia when I first started seriously playing guitar (around 1993) so I could practice without disturbing my neighbors. Later, whenever I toured and had a day off, I always made time to busk there. One of those times (in 1997 or so), there was a couple taking their wedding photos and I went over and asked if I could serenade them with my newest song Perfect. Fast forward 10 years to 2007 or so... I get an email from the groom saying that theyd been looking for me. Apparently, I wound up in their official wedding video and theyd recently watched it and wanted to see what I was up to. He was so excited that he found me since I never left my name or contact info with them that day! Apparently, I just said Congratulations when I finished and walked away. He was also excited to see that I was still performing... Turns out, he was a producer for Channel 6 News in Philly and asked if Id be interested in submitting a jingle for consideration for their new Just 6 Minutes campaign and would I also like to be in the commercial. Of course, I said yes because I grew up watching Channel 6 and I couldnt imagine a cooler thing happening than that. Duh. 😄 My jingle didnt get chosen (boo) and I was living in Atlanta by that time (yikes), but I got in the car and drove up (and then right back because I had a show that week) just so I could be in the spot. When I got the shoot details, I discovered hed arranged for my segment to be shot in Rittenhouse Square since that is how and where we met. 😊 So, here I am after a 1,600 mile, two day, 25 hour roundtrip for .5 seconds at 0:02 in the video below because of a 4 minute song I played in that very same park for strangers nearly 20 years ago. ❤️ #StrangerThanFiction #TrueStory
