Film Festival Report: Movie #5, Patema Inverted This was quite good. Its about a future society in which- thanks to a disastrous scientific experiment- some people have had their gravity inverted (try not to think too hard about the science of that), and now live underground so they dont fall up into the sky. Theres also a totalitarian society on the surface which considers all the inverted people to be sinners, and would like to get rid of them. The coolest part about this? Imagine two people holding onto each other; one whose gravity is normal, one whose gravity is inverted. If they both weigh the same, they wont fall in either direction; if one weighs a little more, they will fall slowly up or down. Either way, they can drift safely together where other people would fall. And it opens up interesting options for sneaking past security and breaking into buildings. The movie makes good use of those possibilities. It has its flaws. The plot makes a bit too much use of unlikely coincidences.
