Film below shown at the Anaheim High Gala and Hall of Awards event last night Sept 20th , 2014 . Below is inductee AHS class of 1930 alumni Charles Walters (may he RIP) dancing with Judy Garland. Also honored was Marie Wilson (RIP class of 1933 ). I introduced Joy Wurgaft Lane class of 1945 Anaheim High School. Joy was inducted in to the Hall of Fame Anaheim High School for her professional artist/ talented past last night Sept 20th , 2014. Joy started as a child in Our Gang Movies. (movies, television program, stage work, vocalist and amazing talents ). I was asked to introduce Joy instead of Marie Wilson. The performing arts high school students with help of talented teachers Sharon King and Meg Elder set a little dance, acting scene re-creating of the Our Gang Movie scene, which Joy had been in as a child. After I spoke to share the biography of Joys life, I had the house lights up I invited the audience to sing Happy Birthday for her 87th which fell this weekend . Joy enjoyed the mixed bouquet of roses and white flowers she was presented , then I asked for the lights to be dimmed and spotlight on Joy as we all clapped. She felt on stage again and loved her standing ovation. The evening showcase of student and past students ( alumni) song and dance talent was incredible and the VIP_ dinner served in the cafeteria prior to the GALA was a dinner of love from the parents of the students served buffet style by the performing arts students . The Latin theme, of rice and delicious beans cooked from scratch, a huge pot of pulled tasty beef, for the tortillas, and condiments , cilantro was gourmet, also before the main course servings of dips, chips and varied raw vegetables were served. The tables were covered in black table cloths, white napkins and center piece was round mirrors and bling decorations and an electric candle . The students of the Anaheim High School Performing Arts Class were our gracious servers and hosts and hostesses. They even had made an luminary path using small electric candles placed inside of mason jars with white sand for the electric solar candles inside to light the way to the William Cook Auditorium from the Cafeteria across the fountain area to the auditorium. Intermission we returned to the cafeteria where we enjoyed a dessert of peach cobbler again made by the parents. Alumni Executive Secretary Janet Young Brown, alumni class of 77 and Deb Vedana are to be congratulated for the hours of planning this outstanding event. They planned and brought the melding of the GALA with the Hall of FAME 2014 together in a professional manner . I felt humbly rewarded for being asked to take part . Janet Brown had me introduce Joy Wurgaft Lane instead of Marie Wilson and Janet did the biography of Marie Wilsons life which was amazing. Marie graduated 1933. Author Brent Phillips, came from New York for the Hall of Fame induction posthumous honors for alumni class of 1930 Charles Walters -who went on to dance on Broadway , became MGMs movie choreographer for many of their top releases. Charles Walters also was high lighted in a clip last night which was shown of Charles and Judy Garland dancing in one of the MGMs fabulous theatrical numbers from a movie . Charles Walters is Anaheim s best kept secret but you will learn more in December each Friday night on Turner classic Movie Channel as the movies of Charles Walters are shown and Brent Phillips , author of the life story of Charles Walters will visit with Charles Osborne on personal details of Walters life. Heres film footage of Charles Walter from AUHS Class of 1930 dancing Broadway Rhythm opposite Judy Garland. Walters was inducted Saturday (Sept. 20,2014 ) as part of the APAC Gala.
