Film rec: Bang the Drum Slowly. I first saw this movie in the early 70s, advised by a baseball-loving friend. Loved it back then, seeing it last night again made me understand why. Its about compassion and empathy between men, and the ability to remain steadfast for lifes duration. Early Robert deNiro (before Taxi Driver), in an era when the fictionalized boys club of major-league baseball could teach lessons about the meaning of love.
