Final EMF Student Repertoire Announcement: Strauss’ Till - TopicsExpress

Final EMF Student Repertoire Announcement: Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche Strauss began Till Eulenspiegel in 1894 and completed it on May 6, 1895. It premiered in Cologne on November 5 that same year with Franz Wüllner conducting the Gürzenich Orchestra. Originally intended as the idea for an opera, Strauss’ tone poem Till Eulenspiegel is based on a German legend about a mischievous rogue and trickster. The opening theme is a musical equivalent of “Once Upon a Time” and it leads into a humorous account of Till’s exploits. Although more detailed story lines have been handed down through the years, Strauss was reluctant to provide program notes for this work, stating that it was all “spent in notes.” That concludes the student repertoire highlight announcements for this summer. We are super excited about it and look forward to hearing from you!
