Final day in Jerusalem! We started out the day with a visit to the Jerusalem Archaeological Park and Davidson Center to see the southern steps of he temple. These were the steps that Jesus would have used to enter the temple. Next up. We visited the Jerusalem Bible Lands Museum, where we saw a special exhibit entitled The Book of a Books, a massive collection of Scripture from various time periods and various languages. I saw some original pages from Gutenburgs first Bible. Amazing! Unfortunately, they did not allow cameras, so no pics there. After a great Italian lunch, we traveled to Ein Karem, birth place of John the Baptist. There they have a beautiful church appropriately called St. John. In that church is the cave that tradition suggests John the Baptist was born in. While I was down in the cave, a church group was in the church above singing Amazing Grace. It was very moving. Our last stop of the day was a visit to the Garden Tomb. It is always so wonderful to end a trip there. Waiting for dinner in the next half hour and then off to the airport. My first flight it is just after midnight, Israeli time. Once, I get to NYC tomorrow morning, I have a 12 hour layover there, scheduled to arrive back in Nola at around 9:30. I dont mind, though. It will give me a chance to take a shower and do some reading. Im grateful for a wonderful trip but am now looking forward to home.
