Final days in London.... A few things Ive learned this - TopicsExpress

Final days in London.... A few things Ive learned this year: • Europeans love their cigarettes. They are fully aware of the damage but just don’t give a shit. • The hilarious different meanings between American & British English: fanny, waistcoat, jumper, pissed, fag, rubbers, biscuit and football. • There are more than 100 languages spoken in London every day. The most common other than English are Polish, Bengali, Gujarati, French and Arabic. • Fact: the Irish and the Brits can outdrink anyone. • Media agencies in Europe are a joke! • A new found appreciation for walking every day. • Siesta is very real. • The Hungarians love their paprika. • It’s funny how the most right-winged conservative British politician would still be considered a liberal in US politics. • I would take a train over a plane any day of the week. Americans need to learn about more efficient transportation systems! • The Sagrada Familia is the most impressive work of architecture – magnificent! (The Duomo is a close second) • Croatia is underrated and an incredibly beautiful surprise. Plitvice Lakes is like heaven on earth. • It’s true – The Dutch are beautiful, the French are assholes and Americans are too stressed out. • BBC News sets the benchmark for quality journalism. US sources should take notes. • The abundance of charitable giving and social obligation to help those in need in the UK is humbling and inspiring • No matter what you’ve heard, Athens, Greece still has not recovered. Go to the islands instead! • The Spaniards practically give their wine away for a bargain price of only €2/glass (and it’s delicious!) • Watching the World Cup in England was like watching the Superbowl every weekend for a month. • A conscious effort to speak the location language, wherever I may be, is always beneficial (seems obvious, you would be surprised) • Sicilians are a proud culture of their own, not to be confused with Italians. • Its easy to take America for granted. Looking forward to going back home!
