Final issue #5. Local Government reform. I think this debate is best saved till after the election as it will basically come down to whether the community wants to go with whatever proposal the local government commission puts forward. In light of that I think the key thing for me is that I will provide clear detailed information about the implications of any proposal so the community is well informed when they make their choice. My biggest concern at the moment is that the Wairarapa Unitary Authority proposal has not indicated how it will manage Regional Council issues without either cutting back vital services or increasing rates substantially.
