Final turn out in #Clarele14 More than 56 per cent of people are estimated to have voted in Clare today, with turn out varying for 40 per cent to almost 70 per cent at some polling stations. Emigration, confirmation and confusion over the new electoral areas were attributed to the low turn out in some areas of the county. Polling station personnel also reported ballot boxes all but over flowing in some stations due to bulky ballot papers. Killaloe National School reported one of the highest turnouts at 67 per cent, while Tulla National School; also in the Killaloe constituency, has a turn out of 61 per cent. Turn out in the Shannon Electoral Area was significantly lower, with a 46 per cent turn out at St Conaire’s in Shannon and a 50 per cent turn out in Meelick. Turn out was also low in parts of Ennis – 49 per cent at Ennis CBS but it reached 61.2 per cent in Clarecastle. In the West Clare area St Senan’s Kilrush reported a turn out of 56.3 per cent. 61 per cent of that vote was in booth two, which is considered the town box. In Lisdoonvarna turn out was at 53 per cent while Miltown Malbay has 61 per cent.
