#FinalFantasy players pay tribute to dead friend Weve seen it before on MMOs where community members would gather together in game to mourn lost friends. Over the last few hours, players on Final Fantasy XIV have been holding vigils across a number of servers for 29 year old Codex Vahlda a lvl 50 Bard on the Gilgamesh server. The player behind Codex has been brain dead in hospital since Friday but on life support long enough for his family and friends to say their goodbyes. What started with a trickle of players arriving at the virtual home of Codexs Free Company to pay respects soon turned into something much bigger as more and more characters showed up until the server began to struggle with the number of mourners. On a nearby in-game beach more players gathered and began spelling out Codex before putting on a light show to the tune of one of the games more touching musical pieces. You can see the display below. The event was streamed on Twitch and the stream itself was played in the hospital room letting his family know that they were in the thoughts of Codexs friends. The life support machine was switched off earlier today. This is both tragic and heartwarming showing the close bonds that we can develop through common gaming interests with many players still now paying respects to a lost friend. RIP Codex Vahlda
