Finalist #4 is Wooden it be nice. Luke McCarten is a carpenter-in-training, experienced in eco-building and straw bale construction. Luke’s vision is to create a yurt community, where people live and work together growing food and helping each other to create a sustainable life for themselves. Luke told us: “I am currently in the process of building the first yurt, which has a solid oak frame consisting of trellis framework; solid oak will last a lifetime. I already have interest from people looking to both buy or rent the yurt, with demand for more. This is the start of a long-term project, which will eventually lead to me buying land to set up a yurt community. Profit from any sales will go back into the company, to make more yurts, buy and look after land and teach people how to live a more sustainable and eco-friendly life through workshops.” Needing specialist tools to build the yurts more quickly and develop his sustainable business, Luke has applied to Awesome Liverpool to help fund this element of his project.
