Finally - someone gave me a verse in the bible where they believe pertains to Lent. The verse is Matthew 6:16-18 (check it out for yourselves) that verse pertains to instructions as to how to fast. Its not a Holy Day ordained by God. Its instructions as to how to fast. Have any of you heard about the Day of Atonement Its in the bible. Yahweh commanded us (Hebrews) to observe throughout all our generations. We no longer offer up burnt offerings because his son (Yahshua) came and did away with burnt offering - he was the last sacrifice - everything else still applies. Its law. To afflict your souls means to fast. - just read it. Leviticus 23:27- 28 - King James Version (KJV) Verse 27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord. Verse 28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God. Leviticus 23:31 - 32 - King James Version (KJV) Verse 31: Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. Verse 32: It shall be unto you a Sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your Sabbath.
