Finally! After 6 tries... 98 year old Ethel Brown felt well and we went to the Courthouse to get her a voting ID card!!! Then she voted early for Travis Childers for the US Senate and Ron Dickey for US Congress. Ethel moved to Hernando in 1926, but the law prohibited her from voting because of the color of her skin. Wasnt that silly? Finally, she was allowed to vote in 1959, and did so at this same courthouse that now requires she have a photo ID in addition to her voter registration card before she can vote again. Robert Long from the DeSoto Tribune was there at took some pictures and interviewed her for the newspaper. A funny side note: On the way to the courthouse today, we were stopped in the street for a long explanation of where were we taking Ethel??? (a neighbor whose 100 year old Mother named Hattie needs to get an ID), then at the courthouse we had a long stop at the ladies room, and then when we arrived--->>> Another woman was getting her Voter photo ID, so that lady was the FIRST one to get it in DeSoto County and not my Ethel. They Circuit Clerks office was amazed BC they went from zero cards issued to two. My son Chase and I also voted absentee, so now I know that Ron Dickey has at least 3 votes in the bank for his primary election.
