Finally I came around to watching Call of the Wild (1935) (20th Century Fox) a very fine adventure film (base upon a Jack London book, but not much is left in the film apparently) about a couple of adventurers seeking gold (Gable and Oakie), the woman that ends up with them (Loretta Young) and the wonderful Saint Bernard dog who almost stole the film (Buck). Beautifully filmed on location in Washington State and wonderfully restored by Fox. It was in this film that Gable had an affair with Ms. Young who ended pregnant and having a baby (Judy Lewis) out of wedlock whom she passed as and adopted daughter. The chemistry between both of them is obviously, very apparent. Oakie plays one of the most likable characters I have ever seen him play. Reginald Owen is superb as the villain. Sidney Toler and Herman Bing have bit roles. Katherine De Mille appears billed, but all her scenes were deleted. Charles Stevens plays another slimy villain (almost identical than the one he played in the Walsh Ford Western The Big Trail (1930)). Wellman was the perfect -director- choice for this movie. Ms. Young had had a very serious affair previously in 1933-34 with Spencer Tracy, which had lead at some moment to a fist fight with William Wellman, who also was extremely fond of the very beautiful Ms. Young. https://youtube/watch?v=480Cwzo0-Hg
