Finally KAS adoption service is doing SOMETHING. Its recognizing that huge numbers of KADs have had difficult adoptions and offering an emergency relief shelter for those in crisis. I hope KADs who were abused, have mental illness, and homeless hear about this.....I think of the twin KADs abused and homeless in Washington, DC. and many abused and homeless KADs I know of. Adoption and abuse should not be synonymous but the deaths of Hyunsu and Hanna Williams in recent adoption history and the disproportionate numbers of abused adoptees, say it is a reality that cant be ignored. Emergency Relief Shelter Korea Adoption Services is currently managing an emergency relief shelter for overseas Korean adoptees who have been deported for various reasons such as crime, drug use or failure to obtain citizenship, or have returned to Korea due to maladjustment in their adoptive countries, or who are living with mental problems in Korea. It helps its residents to regain mental stability during the protective period by offering mental and psychological treatment, as well as to return to their adoptive countries or stand on their own feet in Korea by providing support. To this end, KAS has signed a memorandum of understanding with Seoul National Hospital, and Seodaemun-gu Community Mental Health Center staff visits the shelter to provide mental health counseling and drug management services for adoptees. In particular, the shelter has been helping residents adapt to their new lives in Korea since June by offering Korean language education. The management of the shelter has been entrusted to the International Korean Adoptee Service. For inquiries about admission into the shelter, contact: Choi Sun-joo, deputy general manager of the post-adoption service department at Korea Adoption InKAS (International Korean Adoptee Services) Email: [email protected]
