Finally caught up with the 1974 British film Slade In Flame last night. I thought it was going to be like The Beatles Hard Days Night having fun with a popular band at the height of their powers. Wrong. Slade In Flame is a dark, gritty and accurate insight into the ugly realities of popular musicians being exploited by ruthless money-grabbers who have no ethics, understanding or love for music. Sound familiar? The only place the band feels safe is on stage, and when on stage they rip it up with a vitriolic glam rock tinged with 60s garage menace and somehow a wicked grin on top.
