Finally clued in that spellbooks arent technical manuals, theyre cookbooks, and written by the same kind of people: - Youll only actually use 20% of the recipes in them, if that. - Some of them were evidently written by non-practitioners. - A typo or missing item can produce disastrous results. - Its clear that some entries were never really tested in field conditions. - They contain a lot of instructions for an outcome no sane person would want to have. - Even if you do everything exactly as it says, theres still not much guarantee about what youll end up with. - They assume you have a lot of specialist equipment (magic wand, fish poacher) that only the rich and dedicated can afford. - The authors definitions of the terms quick and easy have no basis in reality. - They call for bizarre and expensive ingredients no normal person keeps around the house. (Bats wings, eye of newt, black cardamom pods, etc.) - Those most highly skilled in the Art do not need the book; mere mortals cant use it even if they have it. - The worst mistakes of all are actually lethal to the practitioner and everyone in the vicinity.
