Finally figured out what im gonna do about the solar panels for the sailboat. I picked up an 80 watt panel, and I have two smaller 50 watts. The 80 watt is the same size of the overhead sliding hatch door. Thats where it goes and the two 50s on the stern rails. The combination will charge 10 amps per hour. In 8 hours, itll throw an 80 amp charge, completely recharging one smaller 80 amphour deep cycle battery from nothing, for example. The auxiliary engine is gasoline and im using an electric 50 pound thrust trolling motor for silent and easy maneuvering especially in windless coves, inlets, and docking. The two engines mount side-by-side on the aft port side of the rudder. Sails are the primary engine of course. The solar array is beefy enough to power shipboard systems and the electric engine. I have in mind three batteries. One 80 amphour and two 100-120 amphour batteries. I may never even have to connect to shore power. I finally cleaned the boat, put in new floors, and have paint on its way .. the freshwater electric water pump arrived today for the sink/galley. Wont be too much longer now and shell be ready to put in the water. I still have to get/make interior seat and berth cushions.
