Finally finished The Kills by Richard House. Basically its a mimic. Definitely espionage but also a fairly seamless mix of war and sustained examination of the lies and myths we tell about ourselves. The shape of the story doesnt come clear until the last pages and locks in place with impressive power. But I would suggest reading it in sustained bursts when alert, without distraction. Connectivity is easily missed otherwise. Pretty brilliant and some resonance with Ledgards Submergence. Also brutal...as the world is brutal. Also the Italian bit is a tour de force horror novella on its own.
