Finally for tonight ( dont want to hog the site ), a captured Spitfire re-engine with a Daimler-Benz power plant. For some reason, they had a bit of trouble getting RR Merlin spares & workshop manuals ( no Haynes in them days! ) so they did a custom job. The cowling didnt quite match, hence the intentional step at the end of the yellow nose. They also had to reposition he radiator centrally, and eliminate the oil cooler which was within he cowling for the DB engine. It was disarmed, and the pitot repositioned in the outer port gun housing. It did not survive long, I think a US bombing raid sort of wrecked it! Nose from an Airfix 109G and spares box decals, the rest cobbled up. Fair bit of Milliput too.... Started life as an Airfix Mk V 1/72.
