Finally, getting some time to reflect and look back at some of the posts from former classmates, teammates and friends from high school. Yesterday, many of us found out, for the second time this year (already!) of the death of another teammate. Some of the pictures bring back so many memories - the long days, the hot days, the practices, the games, the laughter and the tears. We have all gone on with our lives since 83. Grown up, went to college, got married, had children (or not), moved away, travelled or moved on in other ways. Amazingly, this technology called facebook allows us to easily close those distances. It also allows us to offer congratulations, encouragement and now sympathy. I was away during the HOF induction for the 83 team. I wanted to be there but was unable to attend. I ran into Kevin Kelly at a golf outing within the last couple of years. It may have been the first time Id seen him since the early 90s. The same with Al Burba. We may have crossed paths once or twice in that same timeframe. Now both are gone from this earth. These posts got me thinking. Ive suspected that I had some memorabilia from my high school days and just never got around to looking for it. Tonight I did look. What treasures - 1980 Phillies World Series Program, 1980-81 Eagles news clippings, even a ticket stub from the NFC title game. The best stuff however were pages and pages of Neumann football clippings, pictures, programs and articles. I found a program from the Neumann-Southern game that year. There was a page of photos of all the seniors. Al and Kevin - side by side -ironic now that the pass on one so close to the other. I also found an article from The Review written by Larry Gallone in December after that season was finally over. Ive posted pics to share with you. We all marched a long way that year overcoming obstacles, helping each other along the way. Im sure now that we can, and will, help each other make sense of another loss. So early, so young. May you rest in peace Al Burba. Join your brother Kevin and look down over each of us with that infectious smile. Until we meet again......
