Finally got around to Wes Andersons Grand Budapest Hotel. What a delight. This is coming from a non Wes Anderson fan. Royal Tenenbaums was my favorite and I believe his best. Since he has continued exploring his own style of creating spectacle in the minuet and simplifying the grandiose. He paints with all the colors imaginable and his meticulous brush strokes (or possibly more accurately pointillism strokes) seem effortless. His previous film Moonrise Kingdom was a step in the right direction but he out did himself with Grand Budapest. Both the framing devices in the writing and visually coalesced nicely into quite the treat. Its the first of his films where I felt that his particular technique and style truly fit. Ive always respected and appreciated his films but this was the first that I actually enjoyed for the reasons so many love his work. Recommendations: Nick- You are already a fan-- get on it. Even if you werent a fan, our mutual love for framing devices run rampant throughout... theres I think five in total. Jami- Best of his films in a while... you should really watch it as soon as possible being a fan and all.
