Finally have a chance to sit down, breathe, and think a little about last weekends retreat with the The Wildfire Project. So thankful to all the folks who made it the space and community that its becoming. It was a joy to step out of the day to day, play the roles I was able to, and build and scheme-a-scheme with all of yall. Shout outs to the Wildfire team of Michael George Strom, Ileia Burgos, my honey Nelini Stamp, Samantha Corbin, Yotam Marom, Sofia Campos and Joshua Kahn Russell. And of course, Shamile Louis who had one of the most important jobs of all and did it with grace and passion. You all are such kind and thoughtful caretakers of movement, and of groups that are important to that movement. Youre also super funny, which helps. Love to my Ohio family that I got to see there (and some cousins I finally got to meet), of Stuart Desmond McIntyre, Alyssa Norman, Joh-Joh Boston, Kevin McNair, MarShawn McCarrel, Malaya Lynch, Sounjanette Hagan and Alwiyah Shariff. And of course all the superstars of the Dream Defenders. It was great to get the chance to hang with yall in a deep way for the first time since moving to Atlanta. And Im so proud of how much youre growing in power and skills. So excited to count folks I didnt know as well from Occupy Our Homes ATL, Occupy Homes MN, Rockaway Wildfire and GetEQUAL as friends. Its inspiring and hopeful to have yall doing what youre doing. Particularly wonderful to see and get to hang with my sister Kirin. Love you, lady. Youve known me in this work longer than almost anybody, and its so great to be able to spend real time with you. And feeling hella lucky to have gotten to collaborate with Steve Peace. Working with you over the weekend was awesome, and a window into the kind of work and vision I want to craft for myself as an organizer and storyteller. Much thanks. And double love to my partner and constant inspiration Nelini. We should make transcendentally goofy theater and music and poetry more often. And thank you for reminding me to relax and have a good time when I need it. Feeling full and content in spirit. Im bummed youve gotta go away again, but know you, James Hayes, Amelia Hayes, Phillip Agnew and the whole crew will have an amazing time in Brazil learning from some of the dopest folks in the hemisphere.
