Finally saw this and thought it was superb. This is a mood piece - TopicsExpress

Finally saw this and thought it was superb. This is a mood piece but its more than that; its a film of textures and tactility, of light on bodies and objects, of faces in close up reflecting and listening, open countenances. Its a wandering of the mind and soul through an eternal city (in this case Memphis), a look at the creative process culled from glimpses and fragments and presented as a kind of subconscious, subterranean journey under the surface of familiar places and spaces. It becomes a progress through these moments, an accumulation of them. There are few film portraits like this that are as steady as this, as patiently observant. The film is not formless though, it just requires attentiveness. There is a unique challenge in such a surface simplicity in which so little is directly stated, the lack of notable action moving along a plot, as the mysteries are internal, the secrets not given up easily. Still, the theme of creative renewal is discernible and I respond well to that even, or perhaps especially, when its hugely understated as it is here. Defies the easy notes of typical closure too. When it was over I couldnt help but say, boy, thats got guts.
