Finally stopped into the new Mag Cafe this morning. First thing I noticed was how bright and clean it is now. Talked to Barb Olson after breakfast and we commented how dark it used to be ~ I loved the food, but I felt like a mole coming out of the ground when I left the old Mag, Its so bright outside! But now, just wow. The tables from Skippers Pub were purchased and used throughout. Sturdy tables made from the wood lanes of the old Edgerton Bowling Alley ~ very heavy. Then, the counter area used wood from the Luverne Bowling Alley when they changed out their lanes earlier this summer. All ties together very nicely. The community group that owns the building did a great job with the re-model, and with finding an owner, Victoria Cauwels. Victoria used to work in the old cafe, a loooonng time ago, she smiled, before kids. Its a one-woman show from 6:00 AM til 2:00 PM Monday through Friday. Her daughter will help out on off days from school, but otherwise, Victoria stays busy prepping, waiting tables, cooking, and cleaning up at the end of the day. The noon specials will vary, no Every Wednesday with the hot beef commercial like the old Mag Cafe did. And so far, everyone seems to love whatever she chooses for her special. Hot beef was yesterday (!!! *kicks an imaginary rock on the ground), and soup & a sandwich will usually be on Mondays, but not always. Victoria tried a hot dish last week and it was gone by 12:15, so that will make a comeback she said laughing. My crispy hash browns and locker bacon (maybe 5% fat, the rest ALL meat) was delicious, as was my endless cup of coffee. I included some cell phone pics of the menu (she is adding more dinner options very soon), and if you want to call in an order for pickup for the field, or youre in a hurry, her number is 507-220-4067. Nicely done, Magnolia!
