Finally, the Read-a-thon contest guidelines.... Guidelines and Criteria for Division Read-A-Thon (GRADE III & GRADE VI) ORAL READING INTERPRETATION: It is an individual event. The contestant will be asked to read aloud the story from a storybook. He/She will be judged according to his/her ability to read orally with accuracy and correct oral interpretation The contestant shall read orally the story identified by the judges, one at a time. The winners will be chosen by the panel of judges based on the general: a. Interpretation=use of appropriate vocal expression including proper phrasing, timing and pacing b. Projection=voice mechanics and level of confidence c. Technical Reading=number of words read accurately The contestants shall be ranked and the top three(3) winners shall be determined. Criteria for Oral Reading Interpretation • VOCAL EXPRESSION 50 points Phrasing, Timing, Pacing • DELIVERY 30 points Voice projection Poise/Confidence/Personality Gesture/Facial Expression • TECHNICAL READING 20 points number of words read accurately (every deviation - 1 point deduction) TOTAL 100 points STORY RETELLING: *the contestants are judged according to their ability to recall and retell the story read * is an individual event * the contestant for this event shall no longer compete with the other individual events * The contestants shall retell the story identified by the judges. Each contestant shall be given half day to read the story and 3 minutes to retell it. *the time keeper will flash a warning sign (lights/color banner/buzzer) one (1) minute before the specified time * The contestants shall be ranked and the top three(3) winners shall be determined The contestants will be judge based on the general criteria below. Specific criteria will be drawn by the panel of judges during the contest proper. STORY CONTENT– accuracy of recalled events, organization of events/ ideas including making inference from texts and accurate outlining of the sequence of events as they happened in the story MECHANICS - includes voice projection and expression, audience impact and level of confidence Criteria for Story Retelling CONTENT 50 points Story Element, Organization, Inference LANGUAGE USE 30 points Coherence Organization Grammar Clarity DELIVERY 20 points Voice, Gesture Poise/Confidence/Personality TOTAL 100 points TEAM READING: * There will be THREE (3) members in a team; * contestants will be given five (5) grade level story books pre-identified by the Read-A-Thon Contest Committee; * Each team will be given a half day to read the books. Coaches/chaperons are not allowed to interact with their teams during reading time; * At a designated time, all teams will be convened at the contest proper venue; * It has 2 rounds ( elimination and difficult rounds); * The set of test is divided into 3: easy, average, difficult (a clincher is given for a tie); The easy and average questions are the elimination round, while the difficult questions are the final round; * the judges will be given copies of questions and the correct answer of each question * all scores will be recorded in the electronic tally. The overall scores will be the basis for qualifiers for the final round and winners Elimination Round: EASY AND AVERAGE QUESTIONS * A quiz master will read the questions and the choices once only * a buzzer is a mark for the participants to answer the question * the participants will write the letter of their answer after reading the question and as they hear the buzzer ( use answer sheets and pentel pen in answering the questions) * each question in the easy round will be given 10 seconds to answer ( 1point each correct answer),and 15 seconds for each question in the average round ( 2 points each correct answer) * after the required time to answer each question, a buzzer will signify all the participants to show their answer to the judges for 10 seconds, then, they will show it to the audience * The judge will be the one to announce the letter of the correct answer of each question * If the participants want to change the letter of their answer, cross (x) the first answer and write the final answer legibly * The participants will use the UPPER CASE LETTER in answering the test Final Round DIFFICULT QUESTIONS * A team with 34 points and above is qualified for the final/difficult round * All teams will start with 0 point = zero based * there are only five (5) or six (6) questions given to be answered for 30 minutes only * essay type * criteria to be considered: coherence, clarity, organization, mechanics DIVISION READING MONTH CULMINATION ACTIVITY EVENT: BOOK PARADE and CHARACTERIZATION Guidelines: 1. PARTICIPANTS 1.1. The contest is for grades IV and V pupils. 1.2. Participating district is allowed to have only one entry. 1.3. Each entry should have ten (10) pupils including the human props. 1.4. Dialogue must be dubbed. 1.5. Entries may capture a scene or use their own imagination to depict any scene to highlight the assigned Disney story to portray. 1.6. Each entry is given three (3) to five (5) minutes to perform. One (1) point per minute shall be deducted for overtime. 1.7. Only three (3) coaches are allowed. 2. JUDGING Criteria for judging: • Relevance to the theme 30% (Disney story, music, ambiance and set-up should be observed) • Characterization/Portrayal of the character 35% (Look-a-like of the main character; In actions and in facial expressions) • Creativity: Costume, music and Props 35% (Appropriateness of the costume/s is/are suited/fitted to the character/role portrayed. The dubbed sound effects are synchronized to the actions/scenes) ___________ 100%
