Find Music - and the man behind the instruments . . . meet Pete Murphy, talented musician and luthier; a luthier being an old-fashioned term meaning someone who makes and repairs string instruments. Pete’s expertise is his focus is on the guitar and ukulele families. Pete is largely self taught and also trained with Phil Crickmore in Melbourne. Pete is himself a musician, playing ukulele, guitar and harmonica and crafts his beautiful instruments from finely selected timbers, hand picked for their instrument quality, sound resonance, beauty and strength. Each instrument may take weeks or even months to complete. Pete’s work includes finely inlaid details in specialist timbers to create instruments that not only look beautiful, but sound perfect. Pete makes acoustic and resonated guitars, lap slide and resonated electric guitars, banjos and ukuleles. He also makes his own quirkier version of ukuleles from biscuit tins and hubcaps, they are unique and produce an amazing sound. Pete made his guitar when he was just a kid – out of balsa wood and rubber bands. He has been playing guitar sine he was seven and now is creating a career doing the thing that he loves.
