Finding God in the Midst of My Troubles “If the answer to every prayer came immediately, how would we ever become acquainted with the Lord Himself?” ~ Andrew Murray We live in an imperfect world; a world where everyday something terrible happens. Today: A family is going hungry because they can’t afford groceries. A young person’s doctor tells them, “It’s cancer.” A family loses everything they own when a fire ravishes their home and their lives. A woman’s husband tells her that he never loved her and that he is leaving her for her best friend. A family buries a loved one who has died way too soon. Believe me, this is just the tip of the iceberg, there are troubles everywhere. Maybe you have found yourself bogged down in the troubles of this life. Maybe you are wondering, “Where is God now?” We can find the answer to this question in Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” This verse gives us an explicit demand, “Find Me with your heart, not your head. Do not try to understand My ways; simply believe in Me and trust that I have a great plan for you.” Matthew 7:7-8 tells us, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” I believe our trials give us reason to cling to God. Andrew Murray stated that, “There must be a trial, for as long as the flesh has everything agreeable and according to its inclinations, the soul will never wholly and with power cling to the Lord.” Can we, as humans, learn to cling to Him without such trials? I don’t think I could have because it is in the midst of brokenness, heartache, pain, and suffering that I draw closer to Him and I feel Him drawing closer to me. Though you cannot choose your circumstances, you can choose to be happy. In the midst of your darkest hour; when all seems lost, and the world around you seems to be crumbling, simply pray this prayer: Lord, please free me from this spirit that is tormenting me. Please replace that spirit with Your Spirit of Peace. In Your name, I can say, “Peace Be Still.” I let go of the hysteria, bad memories, flashbacks, pain, grief, trauma, and loss, and I give it all to You. You are in charge of my life and my broken heart. I trust You to heal it and to soothe my emotions, my spirit, and my soul with Your never-ending love. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
