Finnisch Friends - show how quick you can help! A friend of mine has the following question: I’m currently working on a translation project, the subject of which is psychology – to be more precise: the interpretation and use of fairytale symbolism in psychology. The text often refers to / quotes fairytales from all over the world. In one of the paragraphs a fairytale from Finland is mentioned. The German title of this tale is “Der Ochensohn”, which, in a verbatim translation, would correspond to “The Ox’ Son” or “The Bull’s Son”. Given that translations of literature do not always mirror the original 1:1 (think about movie titles…), here are a few key elements that might help identify the tale: A hero is mentioned who follows a shear of light, arrives at a forest, falls asleep and encounters a big bird that promises to take him to the Princess’ castle. Despite extensive research, I could not find this fairytale anywhere on the internet and would need it in English. If anyone could possibly tell me the title in English or, in the alternative, in Finnish, so that I can refine my search, I might have a chance of finally finding it. Also, a recommendation as to where to find a website with Finnish fairytales (Google returns several results, which, however, end up pointing to the same book(s)….) would be a great help. Who is the best elf? Who the mistress of fairytails?
