Finns! Share your photos and experiences with The Guardian, about living in #Finland - how do we keep our Nordic identity on the border of #Russia is the theme. The question makes it sound like it´s a battle to maintain our culture. Which is kind of strange. It hardly even could be an issue in an independent democracy having Finnish and Swedish as official languages, not Russian. I dont think even finlandisation has been a threat to Finnish identity, it was politically tricky, sure. But it wasn´t like Finns started to think about changing street names into Russian or speaking Russian instead of Finnish/Swedish. One would need an occupation for that. I know, many of you think the lead is totally idiotic - Finland is so Finnish I really needed to think twice before finding any examples of Russian culture influences. Some words have etymological roots in Russian, and even pies are of Carelian ones. But, most of the people of the world have never visited Finland and I´ve met people who have asked, if we have snow, and it was no joke. So, let´s take this challenge seriously, send the pictures! The pic is from Oulu. It might´ve be from anywhere during the winter. This is what is looks like. Btw, if you travel to Oulu, remember to visit the best bar in Finland. They do make awesome cocktails in CAFE KULuMA Even literary ones!
