Fira Mediterrània will be travelling to Greece to represent COFAE at the IETM meeting The latest meeting of the IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts) is due to be held in Athens, Greece, from 17 to 20 October. The network draws together more than five hundred organisations from some fifty countries around the world. The IETM is a meeting place for members with years of experience on the international scene and is a source of support and encouragement for those just starting out in the profession. But most of all, it provides a forum where people can share knowledge, information and examples of good practice. The IETMs mission is to promote high quality projects and raise the profile of performing arts in society, and these face-to-face meetings are crucial to enable members to engage with each other and share projects. This opportunity for personal contact is especially valuable as, for the rest of the year, they can only meet virtually via the IETM web site. As a member of the network, COFAE (the coordinator of theatre scenic arts fairs in Spain, of which Fira Mediterrània is a member) will be represented by two delegates (Fira Mediterrània and FiraTàrrega) at this latest IETM meeting taking place in the Greek capital. Greeces cultural sector has been hit hard by the countrys financial collapse and, with very few exceptions, it is managing to survive thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of people working in a number of areas. The IETM Autumn Plenary Meeting | Athens 2013 is a new chance to promote the Fair concept that is currently enjoying success in the Spanish State (and little known up to now in the rest of the continent) and to raise the profile of the COFAE. Hopefully, the event will also serve as a gateway to the Greek performing arts, which are still remarkably vigorous despite the severe financial crisis currently affecting the land of Thespis, Aeschylus, Sophocles and so many others.
