Fire Chief Michael Cox Launches Twitter Page Millersville, Maryland…. Effective July 30, 2013, Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Michael E. Cox, Jr. has launched his own Twitter page in an effort to bring information to the citizens of Anne Arundel County on the spot. Until recently, social media was something most fire service leaders used only on a personal level. Fire Department use was limited to posting pictures or highlighting upcoming activities. But the time to recognize social media for its many uses and applications is now upon us, and Chief Cox wants to be able to communicate with the community in every way he can. At a recent incident, Twitter was used to convey vital information to the media regarding the location of a staging area. This early notification resulted in a more organized and coordinated effort with law enforcement and enabled multiple media outlets to provide timely and accurate reporting to the public.
