Fire damages Bluford Market BLUFORD — The Bluford Village Market sustained heavy damage after a fire ripped through the store early Tuesday morning. Webber Township Fire Protection District personnel responded to the blaze at 2:22 a.m., and flames were already showing when firefighters arrived on scene. No injuries were reported, but fire officials say the damage caused was considerable. A cost estimate for the damages was not available. “They had a lot of heat damage and smoke damage and a lot of structural damage also,” said Webber Fire Chief Marion Sneed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is thought to be accidental in nature, Sneed said. Sneed added that the fire originated in the southeast corner of the store, around the checkout area. The blaze was able to spread to the attic before being extinguished. “Its got a lot of damage,” Sneed said of the building. Even so, the store was not a total loss so a reconstruction is possible, Sneed said. He said firefighters arrived in time to prevent the blaze from taking out the entire structure. If they had gotten there later, the whole building could have been consumed, he said. No mutual aid assistance was requested for this incident. “There was flames showing and it was at the point where it was going to get real substantial real quick,” Sneed said, referring to when firefighters arrived. “We got there at the right time to get a good knock down on it.” The Bluford Village Market, located at 202 W. South Ave., is currently owned by Chris and Kim Reeves. Sneed said the store has been a Bluford staple for many years. Fire officials remained on the scene throughout Tuesday morning as the investigation continued. .
