Firefighters conduct prescribed burns Firefighters from the Florida Forest Service and Volusia County Fire Services are conducting two prescribed burns today: ● A 70-acre burn near County Road 3 and Fawn Road north of DeLeon Springs this afternoon ● A 215-acre burn at the end of Jack Pine Road south of Plantation Pines from about 4 to 11 p.m. According to John Pasqualle, a Volusia County battalion commander and wildfire mitigation specialist, the burns are being done to eliminate dry and overgrown vegetation, reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires, and increase public and firefighter safety.
