Firemans Fund Insurance Company is looking for a buyer for their personal lines division. My husband is an insurance broker and from my own observations, the insurance industry appears to operate in an old school mentality. The innovation, if any, sits behind a mahogany desk and creative thinking is basically non-existent. Folks stay in their jobs for years and years. John has done business with folks at this company for over 20 years. If/when they lose their jobs, theyll say, I gave XX years to this company and this is what I get in return. My response to that is, Thats your own fault, they dont owe you anything. If you want to be with a company for over 20 years, you can make it your company, end up a victim of Corporate America or be a lucky one who retires unscathed. ALL businesses are cyclical, coupled with the fact that humans (who are creatures of habit) get stale. Its not mean or cold, its reality.
