Firrhill Summer Sports was a blast - 54 primary school kids in 4 groups (many who had been to the Easter Camp so were already familiar with the flag football) played their hearts out and had a lot of fun. Great to get back there and we hope to return again at Easter 2014. After the Coach traveled to Wales and back ferrying Americans (and getting stuck in a ditch 400 yards from the camp centre - but thats another story), Saturday saw a new first for TouchDown as our newest supported team Clackmannshire Ravens hosted their first ever scrimmage against an Edinburgh select side drawn from the Mustangs, Bombers and Bears with a couple of Wolves joining up as well. Despite the intense heat both sides practised hard and after lunch produced one of the hardest hitting scrimmages Ive seen in a long time. After a first 1/4 of defensive dominance, Edinburgh broke free on a long drive and took the lead with a Jordan Ramsey run for the opening score. However, CB Ross Mcneill intercepted the point after try and ran it back the full length of the field to put the Ravens on the board. The Ravens then began to get their Offence in gear behind the power running of Grieg Clark from the Centre position. Sadly on one long Clark run Edinburgh RB Jordan Ramsey landed awkwardly and dislocated his knee. After a long injury break with an ambulance taking Jordan to hospital, coaches and players agreed to play one further 1/4. The Ravens completed their drive with a run from Barry Munro taking the score to 7-6 Ravens. The pass for point failed. Under pressure the Edinburgh offence suffered a further loss with QB Nathan Thomason limping to the sidelines. With back-up Liam Brown under centre, the Wolves drove the length of the field to take the lead with a short pass to Jay Walsh who just held on under pressure from the Ravens D. Once again the point failed leaving the Ravens one last drive to decide the game. On their last drive, however, a long pass was intercepted by Liam Brown. The final score Ravens 7 - 12 Edinburgh.
