First, I wish to categorically state that I genuinely truly acknowledge the sanctity of love. Now, whilst public notion has it that money cannot buy love, some believe love and money are Siamese twins whose separation can only lead to peril. I concur with the former that the possession of one does not guarantee the possession of the other. But while you do not need money to fall in love, you need money to stay in it. Love feeds on romance and you need that cash to finance the romance. Romance usually implies an expression of one’s strong love for another. Some define it as the addition of drama to relationships. With the absence of this usually costly “drama”, love becomes uneventful, boring, and ordinary. While scores of women will openly agree that the presence of finances augments the character of the man they are with, if only in the mind’s eye, most men shun women who seem to recognise the importance of money to relationships, labelling them gold-diggers. But maybe we should not blame women for and knowing what they want. We cannot close our eyes to the fact that biggest fights in relationships are about money. Should a person that can fend for the aggrieved party show up, an affair or even a divorce becomes a possibility? Could this perhaps be the reason for women settling for being mistresses even with apparent knowledge of their love interests’ marriage? Well, wouldn’t hurt to think about it. Falling in love with a poor boy is easy but spending a happy life afterwards with him is the hard part. Love requires admiration, attraction, happiness, and security, all of which primarily come with financial stability.
