First, Id like to say that everyone appreciates the reports of actual criminal and realistically dangerous activity (as opposed to reports such as people parking outside of the lines at the grocery store), as much as wed all like for crime to disappear entirely. Second, there has been some complaining about SPD and some comparisons to other communities, because nobody likes having the stuff that they worked hard to buy ripped off and they dont like having slimeballs peering into their homes and asking nonsensical questions to try to make it seem as though they were not casing the property. Theres only so much SPD can do, and everyone complains when they try to do more. From what Ive seen, people would be down at City Hall with pitchforks and torches if the SPD started picking off speeders like Poland does (which also allows them to inspect more vehicles for contraband). Of course, Poland Village ran all that through the Mayors Court. Ive been there more than once.... Theyre very polite while youre handing them a check. They used to keep the fees low and I hope to never find out anything more about their fines and fees in the future. I will post a link to City Data, which has crime statistics for the area. Despite the reports, Struthers is on the low end. Its not Poland, which has a much lower crime rate (and youll see it), nor is it even remotely close to Youngstown. Struthers is actually closer to Poland than Y-Town, and it seems true that its worse in our ward than 4th Ward. People believe what they want and come up with completely unrealistic statements to either convince themselves that rampant theft, shootings and violence are the norm, or that the city is being overrun with these things. Rampant theft, shootings and violence are not the norm here, nor should it be thought of as normal to have heroin addicts and meth heads rooting through your belongings. That is completely unacceptable and should not be casually brushed off as if its insignificant. That said: By all appearances, Struthers seems to be maintaining the statistical status quo, lower than average for the state and the nation, up one year and down another year, but not moving very far in either direction.
