First Lady receives assistance from Malaysia. In her relentless efforts to help cut the chain of Ebola transmission, the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Sia Nyama Koroma has received assistance from the Global Children Wellbeing Fund in Malaysia. The Fund which was established under the patronage of YABhg Datin Paduka Seri Hajah Rosmah Mansor, wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to specifically assist in improving the wellbeing of children whose lives are affected by various misfortunes and calamities due to war, natural disasters and conflicts in their countries, made a donation of USD 150,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars) to the First Lady, Sia Nyama Koroma as contribution to the Sierra Leone Ebola fund. The donation is geared towards relief assistance for the children of Sierra Leone affected by this epidemic. A further donation of USD 50,000 was made under The Welfare Association of Minister Wives, ‘BAKTI’ which is also under the patronage of the First Lady of Malaysia. The Global Children wellbeing Fund previously donated the sum of USD 150,000 to the same Fund. Receiving the donations, the First Lady, Sia Nyama Koroma, expressed thanks and appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone to the Global Children Wellbeing Fund, ‘BAKTI’ and to the government and people of Malaysia for standing by Sierra Leone and for their continued support and assistance in this time of need. She expressed hope that the strong bond and partnership developed between the two countries will continue. These donations and an additional donation of USD 15,000 from Cenviro Sdn Bhd, a private Malaysian Company, were achieved with the assistance of the office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Sierra Leone to Malaysia. Since the Ebola outbreak in the country last year, the First Lady paid a visit to her counterpart in the federal Republic of Guinea in the wake of the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in that country. The two first Ladies discussed strategies to be employed so as to compliment their respective husbands in the fight against the disease. The Office of First Lady has held a Stakeholders meeting to brainstorm and map out strategies on the First Lady’s response using the Reproductive Health and Gender Lens. On the sub Regional angle, the First Lady in collaboration with Mano River Union First Ladies Initiative has held series of consultations with health professionals, the private sector and various women’s groups to deliberate on the sub region approaches to tackling the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak. Her office has also made donations of assorted food items and medical supplies to various quarantined districts in the country as well as a member of quarantined homes in the Western area amounting to more than five hundred Million Leones (500,000,000).
