First Project Management Interview, Situations I’ve been asked - TopicsExpress

First Project Management Interview, Situations I’ve been asked the Most. What Would You Add? It took me about a year or more to make the switch to project management and take a Project Coordinator position rather than PM spots and joined PMP course and start my MBA. Looking sitting across that table with you let’s help each other prepare for the next time to reach what we seek. Over the last few months I’ve had 2 phone and 2 in-person interviews for project management jobs. They have been with a Multinational of companies covering many project types (though primarily data Center, contact Center and IT functions.) I have 4 years of work experience and my road in business from the vendor to the customer. And this post was inspired by Giselle Mazur, and Chris Riley I used their work as my base line during my preparing, planning stage Thanks Now... imagine you have arrived at the interview with your charisma and well prepared with resumes, references, and work examples... you do have all that stuff, right? You are ushered to the conference room, where you confidently shake hands and greet your interviewer(s.) You sit down, exhale... and we’re off! > What I face is waiting for about 45 minutes before starting from me it gives me enough time to fill the work environment enjoy it. Let’s start with normal Q!!Most are you by starting with this open-ended question.) “So, TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF...” “TELL ME WHY YOUD BE A GREAT FIT for this position.” “WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN in your work job?” “Watching the History Channel” is a bad answer.) Focus here on the present and what is valued more by the industry to the company. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR in a new job?” (This should work with your answer to the similar question, What interests you about this company?” Both answers can be used to express your goals and show the homework you’ve done on the job.) “I see you worked at X, y, z Inc. for 1 year, 1 year, 6 months. WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS did you manage?” (Prepare example projects from your past that you can speak to in moderate detail for this question. Your projects are your portfolio.> Focus on the scope, budget, and resources .and be specific and don’t lie. Behavioural questions in the middle of the conversation? Like How many use of pin except righting? Mentioned five? How many use of plastic bag except putting something on it? Mentioned five? .that was bad.)What‘s the standard size of the door!! I figured from this questions they want to know you’re thinking steps? Be smart bring solutions from your industry “WHY DID YOU LEAVE Technical jobs, and leave all the certificates you achieved: VoIP Cisco, Dell, etc.?” (For me I was good at what I’m doing but can’t found myself any more in technicality, so just remember that a small step back or sideways will lead to a huge step forward down the road. “WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT?”. “WHAT WAS THE TYPICAL SIZE AND BUDGET of your projects? How did you manage budgets?” (Make sure you have high, low and average examples. Estimate based on resource and other costs if you don’t have exact numbers you can back to your colleagues, customers and supervisors during hangout to this brief info. ITIL, PMP certificate says you qualified for and passed an exam. In and of itself, it cannot prove anything more than that. “WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD DO when assigned a new project?” For me I was focusing more on talking PM language and know how the think more. “What SPECIFIC STEPS AND TECHNOLOGIES did you use on a typical project?” ITIL detail here!) What’s earned value? Direct, Indirect risk? And project life cycle? Be specific and mentioned your methodologies!! If you know one.)“WHAT QUESTIONS DO YOU HAVE for us?” There are a lot of qualified PM’s and job opportunities out there. Interviews are happening every day. So, Id like to know...and hear from you regard ones and WHAT COMMON PMP, ITIL QUESTIONS HAVE YOU BEEN ASKED? Let’s help each other prepare for the next time one of us is sitting across that table.
