First Sunday of Lent 3.9.14 Matthew 4:1-11 usccb.org/bible/readings The Temptation in the Desert In today’s Gospel we read how Satan tried to get Jesus to question his identity. He knew that if Christ became unsure of his Father’s love and wisdom, it was more likely that he would walk away from the plan God laid out for him. But Satan’s plan didn’t work. Jesus knew who he was. God wants us to stand firm on the truth just as Jesus did. He wants to convince us that we belong to him. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? But we know that Satan is always around to discourage and trap us. When these temptations come, follow Jesus’ example and hold on to Scripture. We have been made alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:5) and set free from sin and death (Romans 8:2). The Lord be with you.
