First Thursday is tomorrow. If you are in Boise and looking for something to do visit the Sesquishop on Main Street for the unveiling of a new exhibit A History of Service, A Tradition of Courage: The Boise Fire Department Past & Present. The Arts & History Sesqui-Shop examines fire and its history in Boise throughout August and September. A special exhibit, A History of Service, A Tradition of Courage: The Boise Fire Department Past & Present, explores compelling stories of fire and its history in Boise through photographs, maps, newspaper articles, firefighting gear and other historic artifacts. A campaign collection of fire-inspired artwork by Boise artists Bill Lewis and Brook Burton will also be on display. Events begin on First Thursday, August 7, 2014 with the opening of the exhibit and live music by Boise Firefighters Pipes and Drums at 6pm. Visitors will have a chance to explore old fire trucks, firefighting demos and more! Join the Boise City Department of Arts & History every other Saturday for Downtown Boise Fire History Walking Tours. This hour-long tour traces the history of how fire affected the evolution of Boise’s built environment and related businesses. Tour times: August 9, 12:15 PM August 23, 12:15 PM September 13, 12:15 PM September 27, 12:15 PM Children are invited to meet members of the Boise Fire Department, view firefighting demos, discover artifacts and photographs, and participate in a fire photo booth on Saturday, August 16 and August 30, 1:00 pm – 3:00 PM.
