First, as a former 23 yr resident of WA state, and now a almost 2 year resident of San Diego--first some reality. The lowest temps for this week (the dead of winter) is unusually cool for us, at 52 degrees, but that is a norm because no matter what time of year it is here, it is always cold at night because of the desert to mountains to coastline ratios. I have also lived in Texas for decades and each one of these areas is hard to compare because they are SO different! The day temps here now is in the mid 70s, spiking up to the 80s once in a while. That is also the norm, in the summer it gets into the 90s frequently. It is not that humid here (like TX) nor as utterly dry as Spokane. Usually there is little wind, except an occasional storm which passes through quickly. If it rains, it is seldom and lasts less than a day, usually a few hours. We have had drought conditions for some time now and everyone is sensitive to fires rolling over the hills around here as they do every few years! As for Washington, this picture is somewhat true (yet inaccurate) because of the difference in atmospheres. Spokane especially being so dry that when it gets utterly cold, like when it was -23 one year I was there, you are outside and it doesnt feel that cold, but you had better pay attention and only stay out so long, or you will suddenly have frostbite issues! I never wear a coat here, only a sweater or cape-like wrap, or none. All day every day is summer wear. Really no such thing as noticeable as seasons. This picture, to me is more accurate if Texas is on the top, and Spokane is the bottom one. When I moved to WA from TX, I had to get rid of all my TX coats because I just sweat out in them up there.
