First, assuming this is a self-defense lesson, if I am approached - TopicsExpress

First, assuming this is a self-defense lesson, if I am approached by someone with a bo or like weapon and I am empty handed I am going to run for it. I am not going to assume that my umber-karate-skills are going to overcome a determined assailant with a weapon who is hell bent on denting my head will carry the day. In reality I am going to either run like hell (the better choice here) or I am going to find a weapon in the environment that will protect my head from being dented. Just saying, these types of lessons are cool and can be effective but do you really want to assume that your empty hands are enough. Consider this, in training it looks and works cool, but when attacked where fear or anger or another emotion while dealing with all those chemicals referred to as the adrenaline dump are rocking your world and your monkey is in control are you actually able to apply those cool moves. If the lizard is actually in control resulting in your taking action I hope that I am running like hell to get away from this weapon wielding lunatic who is hell bent on damaging my rock hard noggin. Now, if this is simply a lesson in karate without any inferences toward Self-defense in the real world. If it is a lesson as to the historical strategies and tactics of those in the 1600s of Okinawa applying combat/fighting skills then I still stand on why aint I a running away from a weapon vs. my empty hands?
