First call for NAMA Support Project Outlines under the NAMA - TopicsExpress

First call for NAMA Support Project Outlines under the NAMA Facility As announced during the climate negotiations 2012 in Doha, Qatar, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) of the United Kingdom (UK) jointly established the NAMA Facility, and will jointly contribute an initial €70 million of funding to support developing countries that show leadership on tackling climate change and that want to implement ambitious climate protection measures. In the context of international climate change negotiations, NAMAs (nationally appropriate mitigation actions) are considered to be voluntary climate protection measures taken by developing countries, which are embedded within their plans for national development. These contribute to bringing the respective country on to a low-carbon development trajectory. The International NAMA Facility, thereby, is announcing the launch of its 1st Call for NAMA Support Project Outlines (international-climate-initiative/en/issues/nama-facility/) and invites qualified delivery organizations to email their submissions to enter a bidding process for funding to [email protected]. The deadline for the submission of outlines is 2nd September 2013. The NAMA Facility will fund ‘NAMA Support Projects’, which will provide support to governments for the concrete implementation of the most ambitious parts of their NAMAs. The full range of development cooperation instruments can be applied; however, NAMA Support Projects will focus on the mobilization of capital investments for transformational change. Transformational NAMAs could be projects, policies, or programs that shift a whole technology or sector in a country onto a low-carbon development trajectory. During the competitive selection process, NAMA Support Project Outlines will be considered against general eligibility and ambition criteria. Projects selected at this stage will enter a second evaluation stage, where full project feasibility studies will be carried out and then considered by the Facility Board before a final funding decision is made. This two-stage process is designed to ensure smooth implementation upon the final funding decision.
