First-ever snooker academy inaugurated in Faisalabad KARACHI, Sept 14: Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC), Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, on Saturday formally inaugurated Pakistan’s first-ever snooker academy at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). According to the information available here, the minister, who had specially come to Faisalabad to grace the occasion, played a shot in presence of a select gathering to mark inauguration of the academy which is expected to unearth more talented cueists in the days to come. Commending the efforts of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF), the minister said that the game has scaled new heights and has overshadowed performances of other sports in the country. The IPC minister reiterated that world amateur snooker champion Mohammad Asif will get the reward of Rs10 million on behalf of the government. Responding to the PBSF request, the minister agreed to sponsor two snooker tables for the academy that will raise the number to four. It is pertinent to mention that the PBSF had provided two tables and accessories to the UAF for the academy. Acceding to the PBSF request, the Vice Chancellor of UAF, Iqrar Ahmed Khan, named the academy after celebrity Mohammad Asif. Earlier, president of the PBSF, Alamgir Shaikh and VC of the UAF, Iqrar Ahmed Khan, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) amidst applause. The PBSF chief thanked the VC for joining hands with the game’s controlling body for the promotion of game in the country. He also thanked the minister for coming all the way to Faisalabad to mark a new dawn in the history of game. The ceremony was attended among others by director-generals of the PSB, Amir Hamza Gilani and Akhter Nawaz Gamjera, PBSF secretary, Munawwar Hussain Shaikh, deans of various faculties of UAF, Mohammad Asif and Punjab cueists who have donned Pakistan colour.
