First foreign student to crack JEE joins IIT Madras Jung Soo Lee, nineteen year old South Korean boy is the first foreign student to crack IIT entrance examination. He scored 187 out of 360 in the JEE Advanced 2013 and joined IIT Madras to do B.Tech in metallurgy and material sciences. About Jung Soo Lee – He came to India to learn English and become a mechanical engi­neer. Jung soo lee did his schooling in Pune and Hyderabad before he arrived in Chennai to do his JEE.In JEE Advance 2013 he secured the 2,954 all-India rank, and chose metallurgy at IIT- Madras. “I will do a masters degree in mechanical and do research. My dream destination is Tesla Motors in America as they produce battery operated cars and I like the concept,”he told. Prof R. Sarathi, chairman, JEE organising committee, Madras zone, says a student from any country who cracks JEE can get a seat in one of the IITs. “We create an extra seat to admit these students so that it doesn’t affect Indian students,” he explains.
