First let me apologize for not sending out a Facebook update sooner. Ive kind of had my hands full. Danny did great through surgery on Wednesday. We had to be at the hospital at 4:30 am. They took him back for surgery at 6:15 am. He stayed in holding until 8:30 am when surgery began. The doctor came out and told me all went well about 2 hours later. They did a reverse shoulder replacement on his right shoulder ... Which means what use to be his socket is now his ball and what use to be his ball is now his socket. This was needed because he was totally flat bone on flat bone in his shoulder and by doing this type of procedure (according to the dr) it should give him better range of motion. They would not let me go back to recovery to see him and it was a full 7 hours before I got a phone call from him. When the little auxiliary lady came over and told me that my husband was on the phone and wanted to talk to me I just about jumped over all those screaming children and their UNattending parents in the room to get to the phone. It was SO good to hear from my thoroughly doped up husband. He was in NO pain and being well taken care of. It took until 4 PM to get him a room on the ortho floor. That was a loooong 10 hours without being able to lay eyes on my man! The only reason I think I was so calm was because I felt the spirit of my mother soothing me with her presence. I was by myself in the waiting room but did not feel alone at all. I was at peace which is totally out of character for me. Usually I would raise all kinds of ruckus and be demanding to see him. Thursday for Danny was a day of sleeping, eating, pressing the pain pump button and a little bit of physical therapy. They unconnected the pain pump late yesterday and he has been able to manage the pain with oral meds. He has walked the halls some and groans when he does his exercises. Normal progress. Friday, today, he still has the nerve block in his shoulder. We thought someone was going to take it out yesterday but that still hasnt happened. He is still taking oral meds and able to keep the pain level tolerable until the physical therapist comes back around. Then its a grin and bear it type of deal until the pain gets back down to a dull roar. We just got word that Danny can go home! Yippie. We should be home by 6 this evening. The nurse will take the nerve block out. On a side note, Danny has a roommate here ... A young man named Joe (probably in his late 20s). He had surgery on his right knee and ankle. His accident happened when he was changing a light out on a power pole in his fathers yard. This was a power pole that they put up theirselves years ago. Joe leaned a ladder against the pole and climbed the ladder. The power pole was rotten just below ground level and the ladder, pole and all fell. He crushed his ankle and tore everything up in his knee. As if this isnt bad enough his sister is in surgery because they just found out she has a brain tumor which has turned out to be stage 4 globlastomis. His family can use some prayers too.
