First let me say thank you to everyone who participated in Christmas in July and our Lofty Spaces, Yummy Places tour. Ill have additional information out to you soon on the winners of the Christmas in July. Over 250 people visited our Lofty Spaces, and we were pleased to introduce so many to our wonderful downtown. A very heartfelt thank you to all who participated! The Downtown Marion Market takes places as usual every Friday from 4 - 7 p.m. on the sidewalks of West Center Street between Main & Prospect Streets. Were in full fruit & vegetable season, so lots of varieties to choose from. We also have a variety of arts, jewelry, soap, scent tarts, baked goods and more ... plus, Pop City Coffee with their iced coffee and tea ... but get there early because they tend to sell out fairly quickly! August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month so Friday night, August 8, will be the first annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk. Registration begins in Founders Park at 4:00, and they will walk the 1 mile loop of Downtown Marions Shoe the Loop. {The Shoe the Loop was just officially dedicated a couple of weeks ago during our Christmas in July ... thanks to Pioneering Healthy Communities and the Marion Community Foundation for helping this dream become a reality!} Friday, August 8, is also the Back 2 School event in Busby Park from 5 - 8 p.m. Billed as Food, Fun & School Supplies, this event features performances from a number of local musicians in an effort to garner school supplies for those kids who cant afford to purchase their own. Check out Downtown Marions Facebook page for a complete list of sponsors and musicians who will be performing ... and then join them in the park for a fun & entertaining evening. Saturday, August 9, is the Gary Squires Memorial Car Show. Registration is from noon to 3:00 with the car show following. North Main Street will be closed from the tracks downtown north to Klerx Street (Dairy Queen). Come Downtown and check out all of these cool cars. Proceeds to towards helping Safety City. And here I would like to thank ODOT and the City of Marion for pushing back the roadwork on Main Street so as not to interfere with the car show. We truly appreciate this cooperation and were going to LOVE the new roadwork when its finished! Thank you for this investment in Downtown Marion!
